4th & 5th Grades Learning About Early California Native Americans
Over the past two weeks, 4th and 5th graders at the FP SMMLC have been learning about Early California Native Americans. You may remember that the 4th and 5th graders previously made shelters using natural resources available to them, much like the early California Native Americans. During our learning, we learned that desert California Indians, like the Mojave, used clay pots.
With that, the 4th and 5th grade students were given clay to mold into a pot. First, we discussed the purpose of a pot--- to hold or carry something. The objective of the pot they were to create included the ability to hold or carry something. Students were quick, but meticulous, to form and shape their pots out of the clay.
After forming their pots and letting them dry, students painted their pots, much like how the desert California Indians would paint their pots.
It continues to impress all of us by the creativity and unique ingenuity each student brings to their learning!
